Sin City E-mail

Digg!
So I am wandering the cramped aisles of my neighborhood video rental store.  I am trying to find a movie to watch after my S.O. goes to bed.  This usally means that I am looking for something that she will find offensive.  But, alas, nothing is catching my eye.  I pass by Sin City.  I stop and backpedal so that I am standing in front of it.  There is an "uncut" version.  I'm not a big comics guy so I need something more to get me to rent this.  By "something more" I mean boobies.  Jessica Alba is in it, I think mutter to myself.  But I know that she doesn't get naked.  Hmm...then I look for the rating information.  It says: "Rated R; for restricted audiences only; containes violence, strong sexuality, and nudity."  That was the "something more" for which I had been looking.  I checked out and hid the movie in the top of my closet.  And I waited.  My girlfriend and I ate, then we talked.  By "we" and mean "she."  She droned on and on about her job and how stupid her boss is.  I did the "Uh huh" with a headnod thing.  She bought it even though all I could think about was watching Sin City.  She finally stopped talking and got ready for bed.  Only one more thing could keep me from my movie now...but she had a headache.  Oh well, what the hell.  After about thirty minutes, I popped Sin City into my DVD player.

Here are my thoughts about this movie:

1. Wow. The chicks in this flick are smoking. Jessica Alba, Devon Aoki, Alexis Bledel, Rosario Dawson, Carla Gugino, Jamie King, Brittany Murphy, along with all of the uncredited hotties from Old Town. Wow. Just wow. The costumes were all nice too.  Leather, fishnets, and slinky dresses. Too bad Alba and Murphy didn't stick closer to Frank Miller's comic and show some boobage (not that I have read them, I watched the special features)...oh well. We still get some super hot shots of Gugino and King with out their tops. Hott!

2. The cast in general. Too good. When the opening credits were running and I read Bruce Willis, Rosario Dawson, Brittany Murphy, Mickey Rourke, Eliah Wood, Benicio Del Toro, and Josh Hartnett.  I got a little scared. Most movies with large ensemble casts are horrible. But Sin City was not. It was great...and the performances were great too!

3. The effects were to die for. Black and white with only hints of color (blood [whether red, white, or yellow], Goldie, and few other things). The action was cool too...the cars were sweet (a mix of new and old). But the cinematography was the best part. It was clear that Miller, Rodriguez, and Tarantino were trying to stay true to the comic angles. Very good.

4. So there are basically four stories that are independent of one another but overlap in interesting ways. I don't want to say how...because that would ruin the fun of it. But, trust me, you will enjoy it.

All in all...this movie was great. It is definitely on the second tier in Phife's movie eschalon!
